Caribbean Central American Research Council

About ccarc

The Caribbean Central American Research Council (CCARC) is an organization of academics and activists of diverse disciplinary background and expertise, which carries out activist-oriented research, education and policy related work to advance racial, cultural, and economic equality in the Americas.

Our emphasis is the Caribbean coast of Central America, the Caribbean, and the United States.  Our projects are participatory, and privilege local knowledge in all stages of project development, execution, and dissemination.  CCARC is a non-profit, non-governmental 501(c) (3) organization.

Our mission

We seek to establish partnerships, collaborations, and affiliations with locally-rooted organizations that are mobilized around issues of race, rights, and resources in Indigenous and Afrodescendent communities.

INSTITUTIONAL NORMS

Communities of Indigenous and African descent in our geographic areas are organizing locally, nationally, and internationally to claim long denied culturally-defined rights.

Grassroots efforts could benefit greatly from lessons learned from analysis generated by engaged scholars.  Moreover, grassroots representatives can and should inform the agendas of engaged scholars and applied researchers.  In other words, mutually beneficial, collaborative learning can strengthen both sets of actors, contributing to the process of social change.

This learning can take place through workshops, development work, and other projects, which are central to CCARC’s work.

Long-term, these exchanges can form the basis for the strengthening of these communities so that they are able to effectively engage local, national, and international actors.

CCARC’S WORK IS AT THE INTERSECTION OF THREE AXES OF APPLIED RESEARCH

CCARC executes projects with the approval of the Board of Directors.
